Cultural Community Demands Bharat Ratna for Kishore Kumar
August 4th, 2017
A cultural body from North Howrah had been demanding Bharat Ratna for the legendary singer Kishore Kumar, who in his lifetime had sung unforgettable songs both in Hindi and Bengali.
The actor and singer, whose birthday is being celebrated in the different parts of the country today, has not been awarded the Bharat Ratna even after being such a noteworthy performer, his fans and followers say.
The Salkia Kishore Kumar Memorial Cultural Association, along with their convenor Laxmi Ratan Shukla, has also conducted a procession from Howrah to Esplanade. Kishore Kumar fans from far and wide will have also joined this procession.
Shukla, who debuted for India in 1999, also said that most Indian players would listen to Kishore Kumar songs to sooth their nerves before they stepped on to the field.
Shukla has also announced that he would set up a music academy dedicated to the legendary singer from his area development fund.
The demand for Kishore Kumar’s Bharat Ratna Award is not new. In 2016, a social media petition attracted more than 15,000 people, who joined the movement online to support the cause.
