The sweltering summer heat is a good excuse to skip your workout and gain those kilos you lost with so much effort and hard work! Don’t let the heat get in between your fitness goals this summer!
Utilise these months to make the most of the outdoor activities you can include in your fitness regime. The rising mercury can be the issue but we have got it covered for you!
Experts suggest that the best time to work out in the summer is early morning or evening, when temperature is lower. A German study has shown that a pre exercise cool down works wonders in the summer and hopping into the shower before working out may not be a bad idea after all. Even just cooling your neck or head with an ice pack may make a difference.
Choosing your workout attire is equally important. Wearing loose clothing is always a good idea and sweat absorbent materials should be used. The lighter colour will help reflect heat, and cotton material will help the evaporation of sweat. You may also want to try specially designed, "hi-tech" running shirts and shorts. They are often made from material meant to keep you cool.
Don’t forget to wear sunscreen before stepping out! Protecting your skin is equally important. You can get burned and suffer sun damage to your skin even on cloudy days.
Before you go out, drink a glass or two of water. Carry a bottle of water and take a sip every 15 minutes, even when you're not thirsty. When you're done with your workout, have a few more glasses of water. Keeping yourself hydrated is very important during the summer months especially when working out reduces the slat and electrolytes from your body.
It is very important for you to listen to your body and understand the signs. If you feel nauseous or dizzy anytime during your out, stop immediately. You don’t want to fall sick!
Excuses won’t help you burn calories. So get up and get going!
